Indian 1928 Scout “Series 101” 600 cc side valve V-twin frame # DGP 6777 engine # CG1505

The “Series 101” Scout is announced in the American motorcycle magazines in March 1928. Many Indian enthusiast consider this model as the best Indian ever built. Stability is such that the machine can easily be steered through a bend by applying knee pressure only, hands in your lap.
Contributing to this amazing stability are a 6 cm longer wheelbase, a ca. 5 cm lower saddle position and a different fork rake and trail, as compared to the earlier models. Another factor is that the powerplant has moved some 7.5 centimetres forward. The more graceful upper frame tube and “teardrop” petrol tank give the new model a sleek appearance and this also contributes to the enthusiastic reception the new model gets with the motorcycle fraternity.
The 101 we present here can be described as a matured restoration that was imported in The Netherlands in 1982, as proved by an accompanying customs document. She is in running condition, but has no recent road registration. The usual Splitdorf DU-5 dynamo has been changed for a more robust Auto-Lite GAS-4102 instrument, that became standard fitment on Indians in the course of 1931.
