The successful Scout model boasts quite a few new features for the 1925 season: removable cylinder heads, larger valves, improved clutch with greater plate area and a different type of saddle suspension to insure greater riding comfort and a lower riding position. For better engine breathing wider valve cam profiles are used. The 1925 brochure shows a power chart that claims a 20% power increase for the 1925 Scout as compared to the 1924 model; the maximum power the engine delivers is now 13 HP@3500 rpm.
A notable change in the front spring construction is that the rockers are now placed in front of the wheel spindle to give more leverage and rebound check. The Scout weighs about 145 kg and is a pleasant machine to ride.
This machine spent much of her life in New-Zealand, where she has been restored a number of years ago and was only ridden a few times. She was recently imported into The Netherlands where she has been thoroughly checked by an Indian specialist, who also overhauled the magneto, dynamo and carburettor and improved the electrical wiring system.
During restoration, the beaded-edge wheel rims have been changed for slightly more modern rims that have been fitted with wired-on tyres, which are sometimes considered safer for riding. A very practical modification is the upgrade of the lubrication system. Prior to 1928 the oil was pumped straight into the crankcase, but from 1928 the oil pump was placed in line with the pinion shaft. This shaft was now hollow and the oil could pass through it, flow through the drilled flywheel and through the new hollow crank pin with four oil holes. So now the big end bearing got direct lubrication, and from there the oil was flung around and an oil mist was created to lubricate the other engine internals. On this machine the original oil pump is fitted with an extension that feeds the oil directly to the 1928-type pinion, flywheel and crank pin, so that the oil supply is much more efficient, improving engine life and reliability. This very nice Scout is an excellent runner and comes with full electric lighting with Splitdorf DU-5 dynamo, electric horn and ammeter in aluminium switch housing.
