Harley-Davidson 1929 “JD” 1217 cc IOE V-twin frame & engine # 29JD2953
By 1929 the big F-head models have come to the end of their lives and will be replaced for 1930 by the new and less complicated side-valve 1207 cc model V. Sales of the rugged and dependable Big Twins have stayed relatively high though in 1929: more than 10,000 JD’s are shipped to dealers worldwide. The 1000 cc model J is less in demand with under 3,000 sold. Probably sales of this model suffer because of the introduction of the side valve 742 cc model D, of which almost 7,000 are sold.
Typical features of a 1929 Harley include dual bullet headlights and an exhaust system with four tube silencers (known at the time as “pipes of Pan” exhaust); however, you will not find these on this particular bike. It has been built to 1928 specifications, though it is powered by a 1929 engine. As a result 1929 is mentioned as year of manufacture on the registration papers. Nevertheless, the restoration was carried out with great attention to detail, and the stunning deep blue finish (police blue) makes for a beautiful, excellent-running motorcycle.
She comes with current Dutch registration and practical side stand and it’s high time for her to feel the road again…
