Moto Guzzi 1972 V7 GT 850 844cc 90 degree transverse V-twin frame # VP 11371 engine # VP 51984
The first motorcycle to use Guzzi’s v-twin appeared in the late 1960s in the form of the 703cc V7, and this remarkable engine would prove exceptionally versatile, being enlarged beyond 1,000cc and powering machines of all kinds ranging from the super-sports Le Mans to the automatic transmission Convert tourer. The V7 was developed into the 748cc V7 Sport and in 1972 a heavier touring version of the V7 came out, the GT 850. The original V7 had a power output of 40 HP and a four speed gearbox, the GT 850 delivers a respectable 64.5 HP @ 6.500 rpm, has a compression ratio of 9.2 :1 and is fitted with a five speed gearbox. The machine weighs 230 kg and has a remarkable top speed of over 190 km/h. The GT 850 is a sturdy and reliable machine that has a practical shaft drive. Its engine produces lots of torque and the ride is very comfortable so this machine can truly be called a “Grand Tourer”. A notable feature is the 4-leading shoe front brake. This model was produced between 1972 and 1974.
Many GT 850 models were used by various police forces and this machine, first registered on May 4, 1972, comes in “police look” with single seat saddle, front and rear crash bars and luggage rack. She’s an older restoration and has a current registration.
