“The ‘i’ that changed everything.”

This is no ordinary 3500 GT. This is a GTi.

In the early 1960s, Maserati did something rather special. The already impressive 3500 GT was equipped with an advanced Lucas mechanical fuel-injection system. The “i” stands for Iniezione, and with it, the Maserati gained not only a technical upgrade, but a character all of its own.

More direct. More distinctive. And today, above all, considerably rarer.

This Maserati dates from April 1962 and was originally delivered to Comm. Ugo Passadore in Italy.

The original chassis, original engine and original gearbox have all been retained. The car comes with a certificate and is accompanied by an extensive photographic record documenting the restoration.

The car was completely stripped back to bare metal, after which the bodywork and paintwork were rebuilt from the ground up. The chassis, drivetrain and all other mechanical components were thoroughly attended to as well.

The original straight-six engine was completely rebuilt from A to Z, while retaining the original matching-numbers engine and its factory-fitted Lucas fuel-injection system.

The Maserati sits on its characteristic Borrani wheels.

Borranis beneath an Italian GT from this era are like a good espresso after a long drive through the hills of Tuscany. It simply feels right.

A long road winding through the hills of Italy. A sunny morning. The big straight-six slowly coming up to temperature. That unmistakable sound opening up further and further as the rev counter climbs.

Anfang der 1960er-Jahre wagte Maserati etwas Besonderes. Der ohnehin beeindruckende 3500 GT erhielt eine fortschrittliche mechanische Lucas-Kraftstoffeinspritzung. Das „i“ steht für Iniezione und verlieh dem Maserati nicht nur eine technische Weiterentwicklung, sondern auch einen ganz eigenen Charakter.
