The books tell the story of Shackleton's heroic attempt to reach the Pole using pony's. Bad weather and a Blizzard made it very complicated. All pony's died and the sledges had to be pulled by hand.
He reached the farthest point on about 88 degrees (97 nautical miles) from the South-Pole.
One group climbed for the first ascent Mount Erebus.
Another group reached the South magnetic Pole on 16 jan. 1909.
The Victoria Landplateau was claimed for the British crown.
